I just have a real problem with how the police in books like this allow ex colleagues to be involved. Not to mention members of the public. So far in these stories, we've had Markham's partner, Noakes' daughter plus characters from the books involved in various "stings" to catch the killer. Something I cannot see happening in real life. Yes, I know these are stories but really...? And Markham needs to sort himself out and get together with Kate. At least she won't be snide about his job! Or jealous of it.
The story is set in a small village and features. A wedding boutique, where murder seems to be more frequent than the weddings. All hands are on deck to help solve. The mystery of the murders were the years of pressure from the top. And hard work from those on the ground. A great read.
I struggled with this story which I thought was less tightly bound together than others in the series. As the bodies mounted up, there was a little too much discussions on philosophy and less on the deductions and action.
…but the Olivia-Markham situation is still not resolved. Get together with Burton - you know it makes sense! I’m really not sure about Noakes’s “consultancies” - I just can’t believe ‘Slippery Sid’ would countenance them, and there’s no way Natalie would have been allowed to try and break suspects (!). Not being a fan of the ‘bride’ reality TV output, this was not my favourite. YMMV.
I have now finished all 18 of the Inspector Markham books and found them all very entertaining. My Husband has now started reading them and is also hooked. We both think they would make a good T V Series.
